Duties & Responsibilities
The Heavy‑Duty Truck & Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on commercial transport trucks and trailers; ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and legislated safety standards. Accurately interpreting and completing work orders and supporting apprentices through guidance and knowledge‑sharing as required.
Ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards to maximize uptime and availabilityInspect and test mechanical units (engines, transmissions, axles, brake systems) to locate faults and malfunctionsDiagnose, adjust, repair, or replace parts and components on truck systems (chassis, frame, cab, engine & drivetrain, air brakes, steering, fuel, hydraulic, electrical, electronic)Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components on truck‑trailer and trailer systems (structural, brake, electrical)Promote safety and quality; follow all health, safety, environmental policies and proceduresComplete related duties as assignedWhat You Bring
Heavy Duty Truck & Trailer Mechanic with minimum 5 years experience is requiredCVIP Certification requiredClass 1 License (considered an asset)Safety‑first mindset; able to maintain a clean, organized work areaProven ability to interpret work orders / technical manuals and document repairs & parts accuratelyStrong diagnostics across truck and trailer systems; capable in scheduled PM and corrective repairsHigh attention to detail, strong organization, and clear communication across teamsKnowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory standardsAbility to pass a company paid criminal record checkAt Big Freight Systems , we are an equal opportunity employer that values diversity in the workplace.
