Position Overview :

LawDepot.com is currently expanding and looking to recruit a Vice President of Software Development in Edmonton, Alberta.

Supporting the CEO, you will play a pivotal role as a software development executive, overseeing our legal software platform and delivering high-quality technology initiatives.

This is a full-time permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week with opportunities for a remote work schedule.

Your Role :

  • Lead our 90+ person department comprised of Managers, Technical Leads, Architects, Scrum Masters, and Software Developers working to deliver an exceptional experience for our millions of users
  • Drive the strategic direction of our software development efforts, aligning them with business objectives and market needs
  • Provide technical guidance, collaborate on technical roadmaps, build development practices / standards, review architecture designs, and holistically manage delivery efforts across multiple software development teams
  • Ensure teams are using the ideal tools, technologies, and processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
  • Design and optimize the Information Systems’ organizational chart to improve delivery and resource allocation
  • Develop and work with high level written plans to guide and align our teams
  • Set clear department objectives to drive success, establish performance standards, regularly evaluate results, conduct comprehensive performance management, and provide support to ensure targets are achieved
  • Coach and mentor technical leaders to help them thrive professionally and deliver great performance
  • Manage project scope, work estimates, schedules, and ensure deliverables are on time and within budget
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, sharing of information, accountability, visibility of results and work activity
  • Maintain industry-leading practices to ensure quality, scalability, security, and maintainability across our software products
  • Collaborate with cross functional departments to determine business requirements, overcome obstacles, strategize timelines, share insights, and communicate updates
  • Champion a continuous improvement mindset and identify opportunities to grow the business

Your Skills :

  • Proficient in technical software development leadership, along with the management of people, projects, and processes
  • 10+ years of experience in Software Leadership and Development oriented roles
  • Experience managing a 100+ person department in a SaaS or eCommerce industry would be ideal
  • Proven track record of delivery and execution of technology initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of software development best practices
  • Post-secondary education in Computing Science or equivalent
  • Experience with our core technology stack : C#, TypeScript / JavaScript, SQL, .NET 6+
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns
  • Strategic mindset to balance technical decisions with business needs
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce high quality planning documentation
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly summarize key messages
  • Aptitude to perform assessments with excellent judgement and strong business acumen
  • Self motivated with a proactive drive to achieve results
  • Ability to build relationships and align team members
  • Efficient organization and time management abilities
  • Flexibility to address complex scenarios or demanding situations
  • Ability to learn new tools and software
  • Additional knowledge in the following areas would be an ASSET :
  • Agile processes, including how to adapt them to company specific needs and situations
  • Database : SQL, LINQ, Entity Framework Core
  • JavaScript frameworks : Vue 3, Angular, React
  • Unit Testing frameworks : Vitest, NUnit, xUnit, Selenium, Jest
  • SCSS (or CSS, LESS, SASS), JSON, HTML
  • Notion, Windows, Office, Cloud, AI
