This role is primarily responsible in assisting the team to ensure revenue is appropriately recorded, invoiced and customer accounts reconciled in a timely manner.

They will collaborate often with internal and external stakeholders to maintain an accurate financial record, process accruals and journal entries.

This role also ensures compliance with accounting principles and regulations, including maintain up to date SOX documentations for audit purposes.

He / she has a continuous improvement mindset and will assist with any ad-hoc requests to meet deliverables for the Finance team, as needed.

Responsibilities :

Financial record keeping : journalize entries (e.g. accruals and revenue), maintenance of the deferred / accrued revenue schedule, product level maintenance and proper recording of entries.

This will include,Work with Senior Accountant, Data Team and Sales Team to generate invoices for clients and record accurate revenue in the accounting system in a timely mannerAddress Sales Team and Client billing / account questions in an accurate and timely mannerMaintain customer accounts for up to date information, and investigate and clear billing variancesLiaise with Collections Specialist on aged accounts receivablesApply customer payments in accordance with the bank statements and remittance documents, in an accurate and timely manner

Financial reporting, analysis and closing : prepare and analyze the P&L and prepare month-end and quarter-end closing working papers, reconciliations, and accruals.

Assist Senior Accountant with commissions via communication with Sales Team and brokersAssist with provider and vendor payments, as needed

  • Internal Control : Maintain SOX control documentations; coordinate with Internal Audit and External Audit with the year-end audit
  • Software and System Usage : Utilize accounting software and other systems to obtain data and perform tasks efficiently and accurately.

Lead potential system upgrades, including design solution and performing testing.

Communication and Collaboration : Collaborate with other departments, such as Marketing, Sales, Technology and Operations to gather and exchange financial information and ensure impacts are journalized appropriately in the F / S.

Communicate financial data effectively to non-financial stakeholders

  • Continuous Improvement : Identify improvement and automation opportunities to streamline finance processes
  • Ad-hoc : Performs other duties as assigned
  • Key Requirements : Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Commerce or 2-4 years’ experience in a similar role with some post-secondary training in book keeping or accountingActively pursuing CPA designation / has CPA designationSuperior organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressureAbility to proactively and independently source information required for tasksAbility to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals and resolve problemsExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong critical thinking abilityInterested in a continuous improvement mindset with ability to automate manual processesHighly proficient in using technology and various software which includes but is not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook : Previous experience with CRM Oracle, and SalesForce is preferred but not requiredBilingual in English / French is an asset but not requiredPrevious experience / working knowledge of US GAAP is an asset
