Why is this role important :
As the General Manager, you will be responsible for crafting and implementing a comprehensive business strategy designed to create stability and efficiency, while ensuring exceptional customer service.
You will be responsible for providing direct management to key transport managers in the operations as they coordinate work across various facilities in pursuit of organizational goals and targets while maintaining a consistent standard of safety, accuracy and efficiency.
You will be required to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with both internal and external key team members.
This role is accountable for the day to day transportation operations of our Ajax, Aspect and South Caledon Distribution Centres.
The General Manager is responsible for the development of a strong internal culture that retains key employees and encourages professional development.
What you'll do :
Coordinate the development of key performance goals for various facilities and organize the framework for projects and initiatives
Spearhead innovative and creative thinking initiatives to solve challenges and to promote productivity gains, reduction of costs and new methods of doing business
Participate in corporate strategy design and mapping
Ensure customer obligations are met, and exceeded where possible, in regards to inbound and outbound deliveries, on-time arrivals and quality standards
Evaluate and make decisions on key investments such as equipment, infrastructure and capital projects
Seek out and explore opportunities to grow or evolve the business by collaborating with customers, warehouse teams, community, government and other businesses
Lead the daily operations of the distribution centres transportation departments to ensure provision of reliable low cost and highly effective / efficient service to corporate and franchise stores
Accountable for key performance indicators to ensure superior performance
Manage transportation financial records with a strong financial proficiency that includes : developing budgets, forecasting and labour planning
Drive a safety culture by leading and advising the operations team in the development and maintenance of safety programs to ensure compliance is achieved in all areas including : health and safety, food safety, environmental safety and accident / injury reporting
Ensures implementation and application of standardized standard processes in transportation management, LEAN concepts, and continuous process improvement procedures
Implements and adheres to operations equipment and facilities maintenance and replenishment plan
Monitors ongoing effectiveness of transport operations through supply chain flow performance and key performance indicators, including transport route optimization, direct labour planning, on-time delivery, and other productivity measures, identifies performance decrements and directs fast and efficient corrective action
Build strong working partnerships with other department leads across all business units, working in partnership to translate requirements into supply chain solutions, proactively making trade-offs between service levels, costs and timing, clearly defining priorities, fostering innovation and evaluating current and future processes
Ensures optimal use of all existing distribution and transportation systems and technology and optimization of the person-to-technology interface to improve accuracy, efficiency and access to operations performance indicators
In consultation with the Supply Chain Systems team, identifies system requirements, and reviews, acquires, implements and maintains a national Transport Management System (TMS), Asset tracking and Utilization systems, as well as other performance enabling technologies
Provide exceptional leadership, mentoring and coaching to the transport leadership team by leading, facilitating meetings and providing feedback
Partner with Human Resources to identify and implement a people plan which includes recruitment, retention, labour relations strategy, training, performance management, talent development and succession planning
Ensures ongoing communication of supply chain concepts and principles, Loblaw Companies Limited and supply chain objectives, and distribution productivity measures to all transport colleagues to enhance understanding and capability
Work closely with HR, the leadership teams and DEI Pillar leads to focus on continuing to build on culture and creating an inclusive, equitable and diverse work environment that increases overall engagement and performance within Supply Chain Operations
Model and promote our core values and blue culture concepts and hold ourselves accountable in all our interactions with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and peers

What you bring :
University degree and / or post-secondary education or equivalent experience
5-7 years senior management experience in a transportation setting
Proven track record providing dedicated customer service excellence through strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Exceptional team-building ability and a strong people development background
Must be able to effectively work with all levels of management and a unionized workforce
Demonstrated ability to model blue culture behaviours and align business decisions to CORE values
Fluent knowledge of various supply chain concepts and methodologies
Thorough understanding of transport management systems
Must have excellent decision-making, organizational, time management, and communication skills
Strong computer systems knowledge (MS Office Suite : Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Frequent travel required : up to 50% travel time to accountable sites
Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
