About the Opportunity

The Dr. Peter Centre has an opportunity for a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Vancouver, BC.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Clinical Programs, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments and providing primary care for patients with HIV, Hepatitis C, and Substance Use Disorder, including OAT, iOAT, and MAP.

More specifically, your duties in this role will entail, but are not restricted to :

  • Working independently and collaboratively within an inter-professional team, including nurses, dieticians, counsellors, therapists, and consulting physicians
  • Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based activities influencing health services and practices
  • Diagnosing and treating undiagnosed participants for diseases and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice
  • Collaborating with primary care physicians to monitor ongoing care, order screening, interpret diagnostic investigations, and analyze information for progress monitoring and treatment planning
  • Initiating treatment, providing health care management, therapeutic interventions, and prescribing medications in compliance with statutory and regulatory standards, limits, conditions, and employer policies
  • Providing professional mentorship within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Contributing to the development of policies, procedures, and protocols related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices
  • Participating in quality improvement and program evaluation, including self and peer-review processes
  • Taking responsibility for professional development, maintaining competence, and fostering collaborative practices with program-specific consulting physicians
  • Demonstrating expertise in prescribing medications and implementing treatment plans
  • Performing assigned duties and other related responsibilities as needed or required

About You

To qualify, you will need a current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives. You will also need recent and pertinent experience in providing primary care for adults.

Consideration will be given to those completing their Nurse Practitioner exams and who have prior nursing experience in the relevant field.

The following qualifications will ensure your long-term success in this role :

  • Preferably possess expertise in HIV, Hepatitis C, substance use disorder
  • Experience conveying health findings, diagnoses, treatments, and self-care information to clients
  • Experience with consultation and referring clients to physicians and other healthcare providers
  • Able to assess and identify population health trends
  • Ability to plan and execute strategies for population-based prevention and health promotion
  • Proficient in recognizing and appropriately responding to legal and ethical issues that may arise in client care
  • Willing and able to undertake self-assessment, take responsibility for professional development and seek educational or consultative assistance when necessary
  • A background in substance use disorder
  • Proficiency in opioid agonist therapy and injectable opioid and stimulant agonist therapy
  • Embrace the expectation of continuous education, staying abreast of industry trends
  • Be willing to take relevant courses, especially if experience is lacking in areas like HIV, substance use, or Hepatitis C
  • Display enthusiasm for learning, proactive self-starting abilities, and training in trauma-informed care
