Position Overview :

The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development of prototype pulsed‑power hardware for General Fusion’s LM26 program, working within a multidisciplinary R&D team to support experimental campaigns and rapid iteration. This role emphasizes hands‑on mechanical engineering in an environment where designs are built, tested, and refined quickly, and where mechanical performance is tightly coupled to high‑energy electrical systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Mechanical Engineer looking for diverse and challenging work where ideas quickly become the prototypes and machines used by General Fusion to develop practical fusion energy solutions.

Responsibilities :

• Design and develop mechanical systems for pulsed‑power hardware, including capacitor banks, safety systems, switch assemblies, and loads.
• Engineer structures and supports to withstand extreme electromagnetic forces, impulsive loads, vibration, and shock during high‑current, fast‑rise pulses.
• Work across multidisciplinary teams to define, refine, and implement mechanical design requirements.
• Design, build, and iterate prototypes to identify and mitigate technical risks.
• Assemble, commission, and test prototype hardware and complete mechanical subsystems.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve mechanical systems based on test results and operational feedback.
• Documenting design details, test plans, and experimental results
• Contribute actively to design reviews and safety assessments.

Requirements :

The typical hiring range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job‑specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
