The Job Summary :
Thesuccessful Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide coverage for the InpatientRehab unit and Outpatient Clinic and provide secondary support to inpatient ComplexCare unit(s).
Key Accountabilities & Success Criteria :
- Provide clinicalservices to program participants and their families, through 1 : 1 and groupprograms, based on psychosocial assessments, using appropriate methods ofintervention and documentation within the framework of Speech-LanguagePathologist (SLP) knowledge and skills.
- Providediagnostic and therapeutic speech / language services to referred outpatients orinpatients as appropriate
- Attend patientconferences / meetings as appropriate
- Make referrals toother health care professionals and / or physicians, as appropriate, with thepatient's / family’s consent
- Providecommunication assessments on site and within community settings in person orvirtual medium
- Providediagnostic and therapeutic speech / language services and bedside swallowingassessments to referred inpatients as appropriate
- Complies withpatient safety programs, and processes including identifying and reportingadverse events / near misses
- Attends andparticipates in appropriate safety training or education updates (ie. handhygiene, emergency code reviews)
- Identifies unsafeconditions or practices and takes appropriate action to address them includingreporting or removing hazards
- Contributes to atransparent culture of client and staff safety by adhering to and abiding bypatient and staff safety policies and procedures set by SJHC
- Promotes anenvironment that encourages and supports change using change leadership theory.
Qualifications :
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
- License with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) or ability to obtain CASLPO registration
- Familiarity and experience with : Aphasia, Dysphagia, TBI
- Experience with the adult in-patient population is an asset but not mandatory.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Excellent time management skills
- Driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with insurance will be required
- Adequate access to internet bandwidth at home would be an asset
- Valid Canadian Police Clearance Certificate for Vulnerable Sector
