As the Structural Engineering Lead for our Buildings division, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing complex structural engineering projects, with a particular focus on wood frame construction. This role requires a deep understanding of structural engineering principles, extensive experience in building design, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage structural engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to quality standards, building codes, and client requirements.
- Specialize in wood frame construction projects, leveraging your expertise to develop innovative and efficient structural solutions.
- Perform complex structural analysis and design calculations for various building components, including foundations, framing systems, and lateral force-resisting systems.
- Develop and review structural drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and cohesive building designs.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing structures, monitor construction progress, and address any structural issues that may arise during the building process.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering their professional development.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes in building codes and standards.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations.
- Ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards and are completed within budget and schedule constraints.
- Manage client relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures for structural engineering projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred)Professional Engineer (P.E.) license requiredMinimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership roleExtensive experience in wood frame construction projectsStrong knowledge of building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, and material-specific design standards (e.g., NDS, AISC, ACI)Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, RISA, RAM)Excellent project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong leadership and mentoring abilitiesExceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environment.This role is based in all Vancouver Island.
