In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization and as a member of a multidisciplinary team within a person and family centered model of care, the Recreation Therapist Supervisor works to the established standards of professional practice to provide therapeutic recreation and leisure interventions that address the specific needs of clients / residents either one on one and / or in group settings.

The Recreational Therapist Supervisor participates as an active contributor to the collaborative team process of developing a comprehensive care plan to support the mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being of clients / residents.

The Recreation Therapist Supervisor performs detailed assessments of the clients' / residents' recreation and leisure needs, abilities and interests.

Plans, creates, and coordinates the delivery of individualized therapeutic recreation care plans and interventions that benefit the clients' / residents' health, functional status, personal development, and quality of life.

Evaluates, interprets, and documents initial and revised goals and outcomes; monitors behavioural, emotional, and functional response to interventions;

maintains and reviews records to evaluate effectiveness of interventions. Communicates and collaborates with all members of the health care team, the client / resident / family, and social and recreational agencies / groups to ensure high quality recreational and leisure programming.

The Recreation Therapist Supervisor can also provide work direction, supervision, and related performance, training, and orientation requirements to Activity Workers, Program Coordinators, designated staff, and volunteers, who support the delivery of recreation and leisure services within the program.

Overall, the Recreation Therapist Supervisor directs the development and delivery of recreation / leisure programs and services, supports the development of policies and standards, participates in quality improvement initiatives, coordinates and / or attends meetings, and attends education and training sessions as required.

Shift Rotation / Hours of work : Monday to Friday, Days - 09 : 00 to 17 : 00

Acropolis Manor is composed of three units East Pod, North Pod and West Pod. All Pods are located on the main floor. There are 56 beds including three respite beds plus five short stay beds.

Acropolis Manor is attached to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital through a covered link on one end. Downtown is minutes away and residents can access Handi-Dart and taxi services as needed.

The Recreation Therapist who develops therapeutic and leisure interventions that are tailored to support the mental, physical, social and spiritual well-being of the residents who live at Acropolis Manor establish recreation opportunities.

Prince Rupert is a marine-based port city with one-of-a-kind wilderness exploration and wildlife viewing experiences on northwest BC's Pacific Coast.

It's also a popular stop on various Alaskan cruises. Located 721 km (447 miles) west of Prince George on Highway 16, Prince Rupert is the land, air, and water transportation hub of British Columbia's North Coast, and home to 13,500 people.

The city sits at the mouth of the Skeena River, surrounded by Chatham Sound and many small, uninhabited islands. The area is perfect for exploring and discovering the fascinating history and customs of local First Nations people.

Qualfications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized accredited academic institution and / or Degree in Recreation and Leisure with a major in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Eligible for professional membership in the BC Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA) and the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA).
  • An appropriate valid Class IV vehicle license as required.

Skills and Abilities :

  • Assessment and Treatment : Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Teaching : Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Knowledge Integration : Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Communication : Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, computer communication means.

Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills.

Critical Thinking : Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively.

Applies the problem-solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.

  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice : Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Management : Demonstrated ability to organize work, set objectives and establish priorities. Manages time and resources, implements activities to promote cooperation among the interdisciplinary team and collaborates across disciplines.
  • Leadership : Promotes staff morale, engagement and empowerment. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovation, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
  • Teamwork : Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
  • Equipment : Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools.

Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
