Life Cycle and Materiel Manager – Marine Mechanical Specialist

Position Summary
Thales Canada seeks a Life Cycle and Materiel Manager (LCMM) – Marine Mechanical Specialist to support its non-Combatant In‑Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy, specifically the Minor War and Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV) contract. Responsible for engineering support and technical oversight of Marine Propulsion, Steering, Auxiliary and other mechanical systems on the MWAV platforms. The role works with the MWAV System Engineering Manager and internal / external stakeholders to maintain configuration and design intent, manage changes through end‑of‑life and divestment, and maximize effectiveness and efficiency while minimizing Life Cycle Cost (LCC).
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Perform Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions including equipment obsolescence, material compatibility, alternate part investigations, maintenance and disposal management.
- Support and manage design and configuration control activities, conduct functional and physical configuration audits, deviations, and waivers documentation.
- Provide technical advice to ensure auxiliary and mechanical equipment functionality and maintenance.
- Monitor systems and equipment performance through reports such as UCRs, PIFs and technical investigations.
- Ensure proper level of spares and support cataloguing process.
- Conduct technical investigations into problems associated with marine auxiliary, propulsion, steering and other mechanical systems, including failure analysis and solution recommendation.
- Develop and review technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, test and trial agendas, and engineering change documentation and drawings.
- Analyze requirements associated with baseline changes to ships configuration, equipment and software.
- Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support defect investigation and resolution.
- Prepare documented work scopes for solicitation of quotations from external resources.
- Prepare and manage work packages and cost estimates for customer approval.
Minimum Qualifications
3‑year technical diploma (Technologist) or 2‑year technical diploma (Technician) in a marine mechanical technical field, or equivalent certification.Certified as one of the following Canadian Armed Forces marine technical trades : RQ‑PO1 or RQ‑PO2 Marine Technician, QL 6A or 7 Marine Engineer.Minimum 8 years of professional work experience in the naval, marine, or offshore industry within the last 15 years.Demonstrated knowledge of marine auxiliary systems : Propulsion, Steering, Black and Gray Water, HVAC, Refrigeration.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.Familiarity with safety standards.Prior experience communicating within a global, complex matrixed organization.English language proficiency (Essential).Ideal Candidate
Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager in the marine mechanical field. Familiarity with Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and DND maintenance management system “DRMIS” is a plus.
Special Position Requirements
Predominantly office work with occasional travel to dockyards and aboard naval ships.May be required to undertake inspections on naval ships involving bending, twisting, and working aloft.Why Join Us?
