Chemical/Lab Technician

We are seeking a full-time skilled Chemical / Lab Technician to join our team in our industrial & hazardous waste environment.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for handling, testing, and disposing of hazardous chemicals in compliance with safety regulations.

This person will have the ability to work independently but still work closely with our team to ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials, conduct laboratory tests, and maintain accurate records of all chemical processes.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of chemical safety protocols, experience working in hazardous environments, and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES : SAFETY :

SAFETY :

The Chemical / Lab Technician must promote a safe work culture and is accountable for the safety of employees as they work around chemical waste.

They must understand the responsibilities of this role, ensuring that proper PPE is used properly and at all times to complete the assigned task(s).

Knowing, understanding and complying with various safety regulations (Occupational Health & Safety Act) and Company safety policies and procedures,

Actively participate in safety meetings as required,

Know how to follow the contingency plan in the case of an emergency,

RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Chemical / Lab Technician is primarily responsible for the chemical processing of waste during the assigned shift. This will involve work in lab-pack processing and occasional work within the water-treatment and other processing areas.

This role will also perform on-site duties at various customer sites that may include inventory counts, lab-packing activities, and sampling from industrial, commercial and institutional sites.

Other duties, as assigned :

Proper segregation of chemical waste,

Conduct daily checks of stored waste at the end of shift,

Processing, treatment and disposal of lab-pack waste,

Collecting samples from incoming waste containers,

Collecting samples of various tanks on site,

Environmental testing of samples in the laboratory,

Bench testing of samples,

Provide technical advice to other team members,

Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Frequent physical work,

Exposure to the elements summer heat, rain, cold, etc.

Long hours may occasionally be required, evening and weekend work,

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

University degree or College diploma in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences; OR in the absence of a degree or a diploma have a combination of relative education and experience with chemical work in in the industrial / hazardous waste industry;

OR a minimum 5 years similar chemical work experience within industrial / hazardous waste industry,

Must have class G license and reliable transportation,

Knowledge of REG 347 would be an asset,

Knowledge of industrial wastewater-treatment would be an asset,

Knowledge in TDGA would be an asset,

NFPA 472 or HAZWOPER would be an asset.
