Field Service Specialist

Our client is a well-established manufacturer of workplace safety products. They are currently looking for a Field Service Specialist to join their team.

The successful candidate is responsible for product development activities, custom engineering, and factory support. During the product development lifecycle, the successful candidate will interact with the customer (as it relates to custom solution development), marketing and operations to ensure the development and delivery of an appropriate solution.

This role shall also participate in the specifying of new production equipment for the firm’s factories and provide technical oversight during procurement.

This role shall be responsible for the installation of this equipment and for training shop floor personnel in its use.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • Design and develop new products based on market research; including mechanical / electrical (and function specification based on complexity).
  • Interact with customers and potential customers to understand their needs, train their staff and support sales.
  • Bring ideas and concepts forward to be considered for study based on market needs.
  • Assess costs of both new products developed and in-house production equipment.
  • Provide engineering input on strategic planning processes. Develop and implement plans to support the approved business direction.
  • For new products, determine how best to manufacture and support product launch.
  • Work with the VP of Operations as required in a variety of technical files.
  • Work with the team with regards to the scope, cost, and schedule of projects. These projects may range in complexity including developing completely new products, reverse engineering, and customizing solutions.
  • Install equipment both at customer locations and within the firm’s factories.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and support equipment in the field.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the policies, procedures and standards within the engineering group.
  • Ensure all specifications are properly documented. Support the procurement, marketing, and sales departments in preparing products for launch.
  • Explore new business / product opportunities with the Vice President.
  • Always consider the safety implications of their designs and potential risk factors that need to be addressed.
  • Always consider the environmental factors that impact their designs in the field.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Development of safe, effective, and profitable products - new, redesigned, and specials.
  • Development of highly efficient manufacturing processes that continuously reduce operational costs.
  • Maintain consistency of product designs and engineering operations such that the rest of the organization can effectively work with the employees output.

Qualifications :

  • Hands on experience assembling, building, machining, welding, troubleshooting, commissioning, and installing capital equipment / machines.
  • Millwright designation is an asset
  • Experience in design is necessary.
  • Ability to design in Solidworks is necessary.
  • Experience in assembly is necessary.
  • Experience in welding or machining is considered to be an asset.
  • Able to travel 25-60%
