EBC Inc is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to support operations in the region of Sudbury, Ontario . In this position you are responsible to monitor and support Health & Safety compliance on the project.
Responsible for auditing, inspecting and verifying the planning, organization and implementation of safety activities related to the prevention of accidents and occupational injuries on the projects.
Assist in the development and implementation of supervisor training, advise and make recommendations to project supervisors and management on safety matters.
Assist the company in maintaining COR certification by auditing the projects, identifying gaps, outlining an action plan, and providing input in the development of policies, programs, documentation and training resources for the safety team, management, supervisors, and workers to achieve success.
Job duties :
- Work closely with the Provincial HSE Manager to implement appropriate strategies to achieve company, divisional, and departmental goals and targets.
- Liase with all HSE Coordinators to provide guidance in accordance with our OHSMS as well as COR requirements.
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance or identify deficiencies with expected practices and behaviours, identify hazards, and suggest controls related to the various job tasks, procedures, equipment, or particular situations.
- Control Health and Safety related documentation to ensure it continues to meet current regulations when it is distributed to projects for use.
- Assist in accident investigations with the project team. Provide support in adhering to our Event Management Protocols and Procedures, including ensuring all reporting requirements are met.
- Evaluate Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and other risk analysis tools for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Recommend appropriate means of accident and incident prevention to managers related to corrective actions required.
- Assist in the development of project emergency response / evacuation plans for various projects.
- Participate in official inquiries by Government Officials according to established rules and provide projects with guidance to comply with orders.
- Counsel management (PM, superintendent, foreman) and workers on the steps to take to meet the safety requirements.
- Participate in the creation of various project specific standards, methods, and safety procedures.
- Maintain contact with sites and provide support to enable them to develop a positive safety culture on their projects.
- Ensure consistency in expected safety performance on projects and verify that the progressive discipline system is being fairly and consistently applied on all projects.
- Enter information daily into the EBC Safety Database.
- Track projects and divisional statistics related to both proactive activities and events to ensure that they fall in line with expectations.
- Maintain safety related files in a properly structured manner, both related to hard copies and electronic files.
- Assist with COR auditing as directed by the Provincial HSE Manager.
Requirements
- Completion of a College or University program related to Safety practices in Construction;
- Work on Construction / Industrial sites specifically in Ontario; preferably on a broad range of work involving labour and equipment operation, surveying-engineering, traffic control, quality control, project support / supervision, and trades;
- Geographic and Cultural Diversity with exposure to several regions, companies, and peoples to gain awareness of safety expectations and differences in business practices;
- Proficiency in the use of computer related business tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and other commonly used programs (Paint, Adobe Acrobat, Database Programs and Internet Browsers);
- File management (copy, paste, rename, file and find) as well as taking screen shots and using basic graphics files (paint) to crop or highlight pictures and add text;
- Occupational Health and Safety training related to applicable Acts and Regulations, and an understanding of the background related to the requirement to explain the reasons why things are done when questioned;
- Health and safety certifications including a minimum CHSO / NCSO Provincial recognition, as well as working towards a minimum of Gold Seal Canadian Construction Association National Certification.
- A desire, serious ambition, and action plan towards achieving a CRSP, CHSC or other senior OHS designation should be expected;
- Other standard safety related certifications (or the ability to achieve them) that allow for ease of moving on / between projects, such as First Aid, Confined Spaces Training, etc;
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively when working within teams.
