The Opportunity
The Electrical Service Field Technician will be responsible for the dismantling and reassembly of rotating equipment. The Technician will ensure quality and customers are the basis of all actions.
The Role
- Perform emergency and preventive maintenance and installation on a 24 / 7 on-call basis with regional responsibility.
- Be responsible for performing on-site or in-house servicing and repair of company products.
- Provide technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment.
- Medium and Low Voltage Switchgear
- Medium Voltage Terminations
- Protection relays
- Control systems and PLC
- LV Drives
- Metering solutions
- Transformer testing
- Dismantle, troubleshoot, investigate, repair and re-assemble all types of electrical and mechanical apparatus in an offsite or field location.
- Work from drawings, sketches, schematic layouts, test specifications, written or verbal instructions from supervision.
- Dismantling and assembly of rotating equipment :
- Complete service order card.
- Measure all mechanical fits.
- Determine bearing type, size, seals, shields etc.
- Document bearing and arrangement
- Remove and install bearings.
- Identify parts for proper assembly
- Properly store and clean parts.
- Withdraw materials
- Perform grit blasting of equipment
- Re-assemble
- Paint
- Perform electrical tests (ie. Meggar surge comparison, hypo, core lost)
- Perform final run tests and vibration checks
- Low Voltage AC Three Phase Winding
- Perform core loss and loop tests
- Perform electrical tests and record (eg. Surge comparisons, PI meggar)
- Perform dip and bake operations
- Transformers (Dry Type Only)
- Perform electrical tests (meggar, TTR)
- Dismantle transformers
- Assist winders in all aspects of transformer work.
- Reassemble
- Mechanical Operations :
- Perform dynamic balancing in plant balancing stand.
- Perform dynamic balancing of assembled equipment
- Perform field vibration analysis and balancing
- Record vibration data
- Perform basic stick welding and brazing.
- Fabricate necessary tooling to assist in work.
- Dismantle and assemble dynamitic couplings
- Supervise rigging and equipment handling during in plant repairs and overhauls
- Safety and General Housekeeping
- Comply with plant safety policy and report all accidents
- Keep personal tools and shop tools in safe and good operating condition
- Ensure proper use and safe operation of all equipment and processes
- Inspect, troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to all shop equipment
- Assist with general housekeeping of plant
- Training and Procedures
- Ensure compliance withal QA requirement and shop standards
- Report problems to lead hand / supervisor
- Obtain approval prior to job implantation
- Inspect all jobs prior to shipping
- Prepare equipment for shipping
The Candidate
- 3-5 years in a similar role or equivalent experience
- Journeyman Red Seal Electrician Certificate or Electrical Engineering Technologist
- 3+ years of field service repair, commissioning, upgrades, and customer service experience within the Electrical Distribution service field.
- Electro-mechanical or other electronics related equipment knowledge a strong asset.
- Technical education or trade certificate would be an asset
- Hands on Electro-Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to use and interpret drawings and manuals
- General knowledge of all types of motors, generators, connections, insulation materials, coil installations, taping and windings and transformers.
- Knowledge and operation of rigging and lifting devices and Electrical testing procedures (e.g. meggar, surge comparison, hypot, core loss etc.
vibration analysis; field balancing
- Experience in field service type work
- Travel to site and perform inspections on various mechanical installations and repairs
