About Burgundy Diamond Mines

Burgundy Diamond Mines is a premier global diamond company that proudly produces and delivers ethically sourced diamonds from mine to market. Tracing diamonds end-to-end from its world-renowned Ekati Diamond Mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, right through to retail diamond sales, creates unquestionable diamond origin and traceability.

Founded in Perth, Western Australia, Burgundy is part of CanadaMark™, a program that assures manufacturers, retailers and customers, that Burgundy Diamonds are sustainably produced and support ethical investment in Canadian Northern Indigenous communities.

Burgundy has an office in Calgary, Canada.

Position Overview

Join the dynamic Mine Technical Services (MTS) team as a Mine Engineering Co-op student and gain hands-on experience in one of Canada’s most unique mining environments. Working on a two-week on / two-week off FIFO rotation at the Ekati Diamond Mine, you will report directly to the Senior Engineer, Mine Technical Services. This is a 16-month term position running from May 2026 to August 2027.

As a valued member of the MTS team, you will be exposed to a broad range of underground mining engineering functions, giving you an exceptional opportunity to build practical skills early in your career. Ekati provides opportunities to rotate through various technical areas, supporting or taking a lead role in Drill and Blast, Mine Planning, Ventilation and Pumping Design, and gaining exposure to equipment operation.

This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a challenging, supportive, and growth-focused environment and develop into a well-rounded mine engineering professional.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Protect the safety and well-being of yourself and your co-workers;

  • Participate in and occasionally lead department safety and toolbox meetings;

  • Follow all company safety protocols, policies, and procedures related to Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, and Communities;

  • Provide drill & blast designs, prints, mine plans, and operational instructions for underground mining activities;

  • Maintain and continuously improve scheduling and drill and blast processes, procedures, and tools;

  • Regularly inspect underground operations to ensure plan compliance and identify improvement opportunities;

  • Resolve field issues in a timely manner;

  • Engage with the Mine Technical Services and Operations teams to continuously improve safe ore production while minimizing cost;

  • Track, analyze, and report on relevant data sets to support planning inputs and compliance;

  • Attend daily operations meetings.

Education/Experience

  • 2nd or 3rd year student in Mining, Mineral, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering from an accredited university. Civil Engineering students with a focus on rock or soil mechanics will also be considered;

  • Proficiency with relevant software programs (MS Office Suite, Ventsim, Pumpsim, AutoCAD, Vulcan, Deswik, etc.);

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (English);

  • Strong leadership, planning, time management, decision-making, and organizational skills;

  • Knowledge of general mining safety requirements and procedures;

  • Solid understanding of engineering principles;

  • Ability to work comfortably in surface and underground environments, including heights and confined spaces;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve strong efficiency and productivity;

  • Strong safety values;

  • Class 5 driver’s license required;

  • Previous work experience obtained through an internship, co-op, or summer role is considered an asset.
