Job description

Why BCAA?

Feel proud of what you do and help shape the future of BC at a BC Top Employer. We’re driven by purpose – delivering peace of mind to one in three BC households with insurance, roadside assistance, auto repair, Evo Car Share and Evolve E-Bike Share. With a long history of keeping roads safe and giving back in ways that build stronger communities, we offer a wide variety of meaningful, rewarding careers that move BC forward.

We’re hiring a Lead Senior Technician (Automotive) in our Victoria Auto Service Centre!

As the Lead Senior Technician (Automotive), you’re responsible for ensuring all repairs completed at the Victoria Auto Service Centre meet BCAA’s high standards for vehicle safety and performance while meeting Members’ expectations regarding cost and time. You’ll train apprentices, lube technicians and other team members so they gain the skills and expertise necessary to meet Members’ needs. In this senior role, you will represent BCAA and contribute towards a growing business.

Who you are

  • You’re passionate about finding and solving problems to ensure each Member’s safety and satisfaction when their vehicle is back on the road

  • You’re analytical, a problem-solver, and are unafraid to make the final decision

  • You love to share your knowledge, mentor and increase the proficiency of those around you

  • You take responsibility for the performance of your team and view your success through the lens of your team’s accomplishments

  • You have exceptional communication skills, particularly on technical matters

  • A fast-paced environment, flexible hours and weekend work are no problem for you

What you’ll bring

  • Automotive Red Seal Certificate. Current and up-to-date training on automotive technologies with a focus on OBD-II courses

  • Five years of experience as a Journeyperson Technician

  • Clean BC Driver License Class 5 or better

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs (32 kg), bend, reach, walk and stand for long periods of time

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Experience with Automotive DMS systems and modern scan tools

Once here, you will:

  • Be ultimately responsible for the successful completion of each repair that leaves the shop. This includes your own work and those of other technical team members

  • Use your expertise to teach, mentor and develop the skills of your team

  • Lead by example and ensure compliance with BCAA policies and procedures, as well as those from external agencies such as WorkSafe BC

  • Work collaboratively with the Service Manager to develop, manage, provide counter measures and be accountable for the location’s operating plan to achieve monthly and annual labour sales targets

  • Communicate regularly with Service Advisors and the Service Manager to meet the needs and expectations of our Members

  • Stay current on technical advances, BCAA products and services, and our competitors’ offerings

The salary range for this position is $84,783.36 ($40.76/hr) to $94,203.84 ($45.29/hr) [straight-rate] and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a 9% target performance bonus paid quarterly and annually, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%, along with a comprehensive Total Rewards package including 3 weeks’ vacation plus wellness and cultural days (PTO prorated based on start date), 6% RRSP matching, Defined Contribution Pension, a $300 Wellness Account (prorated), and a BCAA membership.

What we offer:

  • The chance to make a difference every day in the lives of British Columbians, BCAA Members and our communities.

  • Career and personal development to help you grow and reach your goals.

  • Incentives that recognize team and individual sales and performance.

  • Flexible benefits to support your health and lifestyle, and wellness dollars* to keep your body, mind and soul thriving.

  • A competitive rewards package including salary performance bonus programs, pension plan*, and more to help build your personal wealth.

  • Paid time off including vacation, and days for wellness, volunteering, and cultural, spiritual or religious connection.

  • BCAA membership, with valuable perks and Member savings on every day and special spending, from gas and coffee to clothes, sports and event tickets, and hotels.

  • Meaningful, rewarding work for a BC Top Employer known for putting people first and constantly building a better workplace for all our team members.
