Accounting Technician
MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10.
The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy.
As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.
Preference will be given to First Nation or other Indigenous applicants who possess the qualifications, knowledge and skills to meet the minimum suitability requirements as stated for the position.
MLTC is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the full time, term position of Accounting Technician.
The successful candidate will receive broad exposure to all aspects of accounts payable and payroll processing in a workplace with 300+ employees in diverse sectors.
Position Duties :
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the position is responsible for :
- Process employee travel claims for payment
- Process First Nation representatives per diem claims (meeting attendance)
- Accounts Payable processing :
- review supplier invoices, match to purchase orders
- code and input invoices
- prepare and post cheques
- print / post applicable general ledger batches
- reconcile supplier statements and do follow-up with suppliers
- maintain filing of paid invoices
- Process payroll
- Post G / L transactions, complete adjusting entries, and account reconciliations
- Other general accounting / office duties as assigned
Qualifications : Minimum :
Two (2) years relevant experience with a computerized accounting system.
Other :
- Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office : Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with accounting staff, program managers, and the nine (9) First Nation's communities.
- Effective attention to detail and a high degree of entry accuracy.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- An understanding and knowledge of First Nation's culture.
- Ability to speak Cree and / or Dene is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred :
- Completion of Certificate or Diploma in Accounting and / or Office Procedures.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience with Sage 300 computerized accounting.
- Basic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets and internal controls.
