Job Summary
The Associate Manager of Market Development & Planning (MDP) serves as the voice of the Outdoor & Recreation expert. The Outdoor & Recreation is a $60M business segment for Newell Brands and includes the Coleman, Contigo and bubba brands. This individual helps the broader MD&P team execute the delivery of the Segment’s annual sales and profit budget. The role acts as the voice of the Segment with Newell Brands’ Sales teams and as the Voice of the Customer to the business segment. It helps capture actionable market insights and translates them into high-level sales strategies that drive growth for the segment / brand and retail customers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning :
- Help execute the Segment’s 3-year Strategy and Annual Brand Plans.
- Help develop Category Playbooks and tactics (DSMP expectations).
- Help prepare for Annual Planning with Segment sales following the Pan Newell corporate calendar.
- Identify new business opportunities and align resources to capture incremental opportunities.
- Assist with Commercial planning, development of commercial Innovation and execution of key segment initiatives.
- Monitor competitive activity; act as an industry expert for Newell’s Outdoor & Recreation.
Sales Execution :
Support execution of the Segment business plan and Segment plans.Understand Pan Newell Risks, opportunities and Sales Capability development.Assist with the execution of Segment DSMP objectives :
Define channel and customer product assortments to maximize shopper reach and Newell’s share of retailer assortments.Define online and physical store shelf standards, strategy, and key merchandising vehicles to maximize Newell’s share of the retailer’s shelf.Collaborate with Brand Marketing & Finance to develop Brand price & promotion strategy to drive price realization while growing market share.Assist with key Seasonal Drive Periods (e.g., Back to School, Micro-Seasons) to drive revenue, profitability, and market share.Prepare for the monthly S&OP Demand Review and improve sales forecast accuracy.Prepare for Monthly Business Review with Newell Corporate Leadership when needed.Customer Strategy & Engagement :
Prepare for complex, high-value customer negotiations to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.Develop Global Sales Stories for the business segment’s top selling initiatives.Key Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
Financial acumen with demonstrated results in P&L management and delivery.Basic understanding of brand and category management.Ability to translate market knowledge and insights into actions.Understanding of storytelling and developing selling stories.Category knowledge and ability to translate insights into action plans.Strong presentation and communication skills.Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field.2+ years in market planning, brand management, or related roles.Canadian retail customer knowledge is a plus.Understanding of syndicated POS and Panel data.Demonstrated ability to partner with multiple teams in a matrixed organization is a plus.The Ontario base pay range for this position is from $88,550 - $108,200. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position.
