Position Title : Student and Community Engagement Assistant (Humber Arboretum)
Job Type : Regular Part Time (RPT)
Hours : up to 24 hours per week
Faculty / Department : Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellness
Campus / Location : North Campus
Salary : PT Support Payband 8 $24.99 (min) - $38.45 (max)
What you will do :
Reporting to the Manager of the Humber Arboretum and Centre for Urban Ecology, the Student and Community Engagement Assistant will be working with the Student and Community Engagement Specialists and other members of the Humber Arboretum’s Educational Team to assist in student and community centered outdoor educational experiences.
During the Summer the incumbent will work in the Humber Arboretum’s Summer Nature Camp as a Program Lead.
Camp duties include (but are not limited to);
Assigning work schedules
- Allocating tasks
- Providing guidance to camp staff in compliance with the Ontario Camp Association’s year-round standards.
- Planning and facilitating weekly camp activities aligned with Arboretum Nature Camp weekly theme
Qualifications
What you will bring to the role :
Education
3 / 4year diploma / degree plus professional certification, or equivalent in a human service-related field.
Experience
- Facilitate events with various partnerships (e.g. Sustainable Urban Beekeeping, Etobicoke Master Gardiners, Reena, etc.
- and provide general support online and on-site when needed.
- Facilitating curriculum connected outdoor education experiences for school groups
- Facilitate and produce virtual learning workshops using various online learning platforms including WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and ZOOM
- Utilizing Microsoft Office 365 tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, and Teams
- Responsible for documenting needed programming, educational and camp supplies and equipment on order lists
- Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the Centre for Urban Ecology. Regular inventory and maintenance of materials related to educational programming is ongoing.
- Weekend groups etc...
- Researching new games and activities for outdoor education and camp programming; utilizing readily available resources (e.
g. Project Wild, The Coyote Guide, Muddy Boots, etc...)

- Effective communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to delegate tasks effectively and efficiently and can adapt in a dynamic and constantly changing work environment.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible with priorities
- Strong organizational sills
- High degree of professionalism and attention to detail, with strong leadership, time management and collaboration skills.
