Forbes Bros Ltd. is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist (full-time, permanent) to support our project across Eastern, Canada.
The ideal candidate will be based out of Edmonton, AB, Winnipeg, MB, or Southern Ontario.
The GIS Specialist will be responsible for GIS data management, mapping and analysis for various projects and collaborate with other professionals in the enterprise and from external organizations to ensure desired results are achieved in a timely manner.
This is a hybrid role that will require the successful candidate to be in office and on-site as required.

Key Responsibilities :

- Collect, organize, and maintain GIS data related to transmission lines, including land use, topography, environmental factors, and infrastructure
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility
- Create detailed maps and spatial analyses to support transmission line routing, design, planning and construction
- Work closely with engineering teams to integrate GIS data into design and construction processes
- Communicate findings and analyses through reports, presentations, and visualizations to stakeholders and project teams
- Assist with development, implementation of GIS based project tracking, KPIs and project analytic tools
- Assist in the preparation of permits, regulatory submissions, and environmental assessments
- Support field teams with GIS data and mapping tools during site visits and inspections
- Stay updated with the latest GIS technology and trends to continuously improve processes and tools
- Develop and maintain custom GIS tools and scripts to streamline workflows and enhance data analysis capabilities
- Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned
What We Are Looking For :
- Minimum 3 years' related experience and experience with geodatabase topologies and parcel fabrics along with Online Web-based products and FME, is required
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field and / or successful completion of a diploma or degree in GIS / Geomatics from an institute of recognized standing and two years of related experience.
A master's degree is an asset
- Experience in GIS within the utility sector, specifically in transmission line design and planning would be considered an asset
- Proficiency in mapping and analytics software platforms, as well as geospatial data integration tools and GIS software (e.
g., ArcGIS, QGIS, un Earthed)
- Experience with Survey123 and Python coding would be considered an asset
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills : ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of management, employees and clients to achieve desired results
- Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
- Able and willing to travel as required to various sites and project locations
- Able and willing to present a Valid Class 5 Driver's License
