What you’ll do :
Under the direction of the Home Centre Manager, the Yard Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the yard and outdoor storage facilities, ensuring efficient workflow, safety compliance, proper inventory management, and a high level of customer service.
Responsibilities for this position include the following :
- Prepare, administer and be responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the yard.
- Ensure all staff adhere to standards for merchandising, maintenance, loss prevention, safety, & customer service.
- Ensure accurate tracking and organization of inventory, including materials, equipment, vehicles, and merchandise.
- Develop and implement processes to optimize yard operations and improve productivity.
- Supervise and coordinate yard team members, including scheduling, training, performance management, and coaching.
- Develop and achieve plans for merchandise locations, inventory storage, signage, and yard maintenance.
- Implement efficient yard layout and workflow processes to maximize space utilization and minimize delays or damage to inventory.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment is maintained.
- Coordinate the maintenance and repair of yard equipment and machinery.
- Given input for the annual budget and ensure claims, invoices and all other paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner, while following all procedure requirements.
- Understand the point of sale (“ POS ”) system to search for and locate information to assist customers.
- Act as the main point of contact for drivers, vendors, and subcontractors within the yard.
- Effectively communicate with staff, management, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee product deliveries, shipments, dispatching, unloading, and loading.
- Work with customers, sales teams, and service teams to provide a high level of customer service.
- Adhere to and enforce all Dawson Co-operative Union policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
- Plan for self-development and take initiative to improve own knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who are you :
Qualifications and Educational Requirements :
Post-secondary education in construction, forestry, or other related fields is preferred.5 years’ experience managing large teams in a complex, safety sensitive environment.Experience using software programs to manage inventory, safety documentation, and electronic truck logs.Ability to identify and resolve issues related to yard operations.Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for yard operations.Familiarity with products including lumber and large agricultural hardware / equipment.Strong ability to communicate with team members and other stakeholders.Equipment operation and maintenance knowledge.Ability to perform physical tasks, such as walking, standing, and lifting for extended periods of time.Valid Class Five driver’s license with a clean abstract, Class 3 or 1 is an asset.Strong ability to manage relationships at all levels.What we offer :
