The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) is a large Indigenous not for profit organization. We are culturally based, community focused, and committed to driving positive change for the community.

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) Indigenous Housing Stability Navigator, under the direction of the Executive Director or Designate, is responsible to provide individualized case management to support clients in maintaining and sustaining their housing in a good way.

The Indigenous Housing Stability Navigator will work closely with other case management staff and existing clients through the transition of securing and stabilizing their housing.

This will be achieved by identifying goals, strengthening life skills, and providing appropriate referrals to assist with working through any barriers that may deter a healthy lifestyle.

Job Requirements / Qualifications :

  • 2-year College diploma in Social Service work, Indigenous Studies or a combination of relevant education and experience;
  • 2-years of demonstrated and related work experience within an Indigenous organization or community, homelessness and / or social service setting, or a combination of equivalent experience as deemed relevant by the Executive Director;
  • Experience in case management, planning, and coordination for people with complex support needs;
  • Demonstrated experience initiating a support service plan that will address safety, basic needs, relationships, daily activities, life skills, social and community integration, risks and triggers, managing tenancy, economic and wellness opportunities, and create goals for greater independence including exit planning;
  • Ability to provide crisis management, advocacy, and outreach as required;
  • Work in conjunction with other program staff to deliver workshops and events to enhance wrap around services for clients and strengthen community education;
  • Awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships;
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and other database applications- statistical and narrative reporting;
  • First Aid / CPR and non-violent crisis intervention certification or be willing to be certified is an asset;
  • Valid driver’s licence with clear driving record is an asset; and,
  • Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a clean Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CPIC) check with Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) as a condition of the employment offer.
