What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP).
Beginning of 2023 Aecon started supportting the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager. Functional support to the Manager of Proposals and Estimating or Project Engineer for Proposal and Project support respectively.
May work directly with other Aecon personnel / departments, specifically Proposal Managers, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Construction, etc.
Responsible for selection of engineered equipment and components for Nuclear Proposals and Contracts. The position requires preparation of engineered equipment specifications (ATS’s / RFQ’s), evaluation of vendor bids and application of specialized knowledge of process related functions of various types of equipment.
What You’ll Do Here :
- Obtain design data from Design Service Providers (DSPs) and review customer specifications to establish the basis for design and selection of vendor equipment.
- May be required to prepare preliminary functional equipment specifications / data sheets based on conceptual design data to obtain budgetary equipment pricing.
- Prepare Aecon Technical Specifications (ATS’s) or Proposal RFQ’s to support proposal or contract execution as directed by the Proposal Manager or Project Engineer respectively.
- Understand the overall function of various process systems, and the impact of the performance of specific equipment on those systems.
- May be required to enter vendor equipment requisitions into Aecon Procurement systems as directed.
- Working with the vendors, DSP engineering and Procurement to ensure selected equipment design and arrangement satisfies customer specifications along with industry codes and standards.
- Work together with Proposal / Project Managers as assigned.
- May act as the direct technical contact with the Vendor as required.
- Reviews vendor drawings and documents during contract execution for compliance with specifications and applicable codes and standards.
- Confirms that the selected vendor equipment meets applicable codes and will be able to perform to all required guarantees.
- Work directly with Aecon Procurement during proposal and project execution.
- Engages the DSP engineering as required to resolve vendor non-compliance with technical specification requirements.
- Evaluate vendors’ quotations and recommend Vendor selection based on performance specifications, pricing and guarantees.
What You Bring to the Table :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with power / steam generation, or other process related, vendor equipment and selection.
- Knowledge of Nuclear Codes and Standards (CSA, ASME) and nuclear class equipment procurement.
- Commercial knowledge by training and / or experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proven organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, specifically pertaining to completeness and accuracy of job duties.
- Leadership and team skills and ability to work collaboratively in team environment.
