The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household good collection service. With more than 5,000 donation bins and an active home pick‑up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada. Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. About The Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work up to 29 hours per week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from customers’ homes and our designated charity donations bins – and deliver these items to our Corporate Partners and storage facilities.
Highlights Of The Role Include
understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and all volunteersthorough knowledge of the organization goals and objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure at all levelsoperate vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and in a safe and responsible mannerconduct ‘pre’ and ‘post’ trip inspectionscomplete and submit the appropriate paperwork dailycomplete the Hours‑of‑Service logs and associated paperwork and submit dailycarry proof of valid driver’s license, valid plate permit registration, a copy of the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration / National Safety Code Registration documentation and the associated vehicle inspection and Hours of Service documentationcheck in with dispatch at beginning, mid‑day, and end of scheduled routeprovide an appropriate message card to each donorproperly log all assigned pick‑upsunload merchandise as instructedreturn all equipment to the office at the end of each dayreport route discrepancies with dispatchensure that only authorized personnel ride inside the truckparticipate in all required driving related NDT education, initiatives, directives and proceduresadditional duties as required to ensure the effective function of OperationsAbout You
Grade 12 Education or equivalent experienceability to read mapsability to handle 10‑50 lbs. loadsability to drive a 3‑Ton (16 foot) straight truckstrong organizational skills, ability to map routes for efficient pickuppresent a positive business‑like image to the publiccommunicate effectively with a wide variety of peopleprovide calm assistance to upset clientsmaintain a public relations attitude even during stressful situationsunderstand and follow written or verbal instructionsgood command of the English languagesuperior customer service skillsfull Class 5 and / or G licence or higher, passenger car or light truckminimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the above level. 2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle trainingclean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 yearsDiversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
