Overview
The Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for designing and developing robust and innovative medical devices and equipment to support the commercialization of company-developed products. Responsibilities include cost estimation, design, verification, and validation. The engineer will collaborate with partners to deliver designs of electromechanical assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Work with vendors to complete designs
- Review vendor-provided designs to ensure they meet product requirements
- Research design options and perform experiments to assess feasibility
- Complete high-level design; work with external partners on detailed design
- Collaborate closely with electrical and software engineers, designing with a system-wide perspective
- Interact with global and internal design and manufacturing resources to optimize for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
- Create and release product requirements, design specifications, and descriptions in compliance with medical device standards and internal procedures
- Ensure engineering documentation complies with corporate policies
- Review product documentation for accuracy, including customer-facing materials
- Participate in designing, prototyping, testing, and qualifying high-reliability medical devices
- Support risk assessments, design reviews, pre-production, testing, and regulatory submissions
- Evaluate product non-conformances and recommend design modifications using analytical techniques
- Assist in the development of intellectual property
Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in technical product or mechanical device designBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s preferredP.Eng from EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain P.Eng license requiredExtensive experience working with design partnersProficiency in SolidWorks and its add-insExperience with plastic injection mold tool design, including insert molding and over-moldingProven project development skills in a medical device R&D environmentAbility to define project goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced settingExperience working in a technical team environmentIndependent judgment using sound engineering principlesStrong written communication skills with attention to detailFor applicants without an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer license, an alternative title will be used until a license is obtained.
