Assistant Head Nurse

Your Opportunity :

The Assistant Head Nurse, in collaboration with the OR unit manager and colleagues, supports the operations of the Stollery Operating Room, utilizing a broad base of perioperative nursing education and experience to support one or more surgical specialties and / or manage patient flow in the operating room.

The assignment of work is at the discretion of the OR manager and may be adjusted based on operational needs and on the skill / strength mix of the team to assure optimal outcomes.

Both specialty service support and patient flow management will be assigned based on skill mix, fit (suitability), experience and schedule.

The Assistant Head Nurse promotes excellence in the delivery of care, contributes to quality initiatives and promotes a professional work environment.

The Assistant Head Nurse refers issues of a financial or human resource nature to the Unit Manager for their guidance and / or resolution.

The Assistant Head Nurse works collaboratively with the Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Educator to assist staff with meeting clinical requirements and supporting professional development.

Description :

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff.

In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities.

Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers.

You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications :

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications :

Minium 6 months Pediatric OR experience required.

Preferred Qualifications :

PALS preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. NALS preferred. CNA Certificate in Perioperative Nursing preferred.
