We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Montréal office :
Bilingual paralegal, real estate and financial services
The Role :
Hybrid schedule : three days in the office
We are looking for an experienced bilingual paralegal to join the corporate, real estate and financial services group in our Montreal office.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the candidate will assist our team of lawyers in their real estate and banking / financial services practice and in carrying out mandates.
The candidate will also work closely with other paralegals in the corporate law group and will be responsible for providing them with support on files dealing with various transactional aspects related to our clients’ business transactions.
Essential Functions :
- Conduct searches of various public databases (REQ, Corporations Canada, RDPRM, Bank Act, Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, SOQUIJ, Plumitif (court records), CIPO, Land Registry, etc.);
- Analyze titles and other research results and write research reports / summary tables;
- Prepare various drafts of legal documents related to banking law : mortgages, assignments of rank, write-offs, etc., and register with the RDPRM and the Land Registry;
- Prepare and coordinate access to information requests to various government authorities (off-title searches);
- Research various zoning by-laws, including contacting municipal authorities as required, and prepare summary reports on zoning issues;
- Communicate with title insurers and review insurance policies;
- Prepare various draft legal documents related to real estate law : deed of sale, notice of lease, notice of legal hypothec, notice of hypothec resulting from judgment, notice of exercise of hypothecary rights and other various deeds, and register with the Land Registry;
- Analyze security documents for publication;
- Drafting of transaction documents, such as management certificates and closing agendas;
- Any other related duties that will be requested as part of your duties.
Qualifications :
The candidate in this position will have to interact with clients and third parties who understand and communicate only in English.
This position also requires that the candidate be able to interact seamlessly with colleagues in our offices across Canada, where English is the predominant language.
Since we estimate that more than 50% of the work required for this position must be done in English, the language requirements for this position are a high level of writing, understanding and oral communication in that language.
- The candidate must also have a high level of writing, understanding and oral communication in French;
- Diploma of College Studies (D.E.C.) in legal techniques or a certificate in law;
- Between 4 to 7 years experience as a paralegal in a real estate and financial services group;
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite;
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work in multi-tasking
- Ability to manage priorities and work with tight deadlines;
- Exceptional ability to work independently with minimal supervision or in an ever-changing team environment;
- High attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks quickly and accurately;
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and discretion, as well as being customer service-oriented, adaptable and responsible.
