The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is accepting applications for the Mental Health Correctional Officer for appointment to term full-time position for approximately 18-24 months within the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford.

The Ministry requires individuals who will commit to their counselling, case management and custody roles with adult offenders.

We are seeking candidates who have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, have good work ethics, and can work well in a team environment.

These skills are required to ensure the job is performed in a safe, cooperative and effective manner.

Successful candidates will have knowledge of the criminal justice processes; human behaviour, interpersonal communications, and counselling methodologies including criminogenic factors and their relationship to offender case management and special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual belief systems.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a university degree in the Social Sciences or closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Candidates with considerable years of Human Service experience may also be considered.

The successful completion of an Induction Training Program (ITP) is required. CPR / First Aid / AED Certificates are required.

A valid driver's license is required to transport offenders in emergent situations.
