Community Health Nurses deliver comprehensive health programs which include promoting, supporting and preserving the health of First Nations populations.

Programs are designed in partnership with community members to promote environments that support good health. The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care is paramount.

Health services are provided to all age groups, including but not limited to :

Public Health

Community outreach and health promotion

Chronic disease, communicable disease and outbreak management

Sexual Health and STBBI programming

Vaccination and well-child clinics

Maternal child health programming

Home Care

Case management

Care planning and coordination

Nursing services such as wound and post-operative care, foot care

Medication management

Personnel supervision

Work environment

Community Health Nurses, employed by Indigenous Services Canada, work in 19 First Nation communities in rural areas of central and southern Saskatchewan, located across Treaty 4 & 6.

Community Health Nurses enjoy both autonomous and team-based work. They work in community health centres or clinics and may also provide services in homes, schools, community buildings and at outdoor events.

By joining our team, you will build strong working relationships with First Nation communities, partners, and health professionals.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at this group and level with various tenures and in various locations within Saskatchewan.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada

EXPERIENCE

Experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) providing Community Health or Primary Care nursing services in one or more of the following areas :

Community Health (Public Health, Home and Community Care)

Primary Care

Urgent or Emergency Care

Acute or Intensive Care

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

NOTE : Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet the asset criteria listed below by answering the screening questions at the time of application.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation with a degree in nursing from a recognized post-secondary institution

Experience with immunizations such as mass clinics (seasonal influenza, COVID-19), school or well-child clinics

Experience in the treatment and management of Sexually Transmitted Blood Borne Infections (STBBI)

Experience with maternal-child development, post-partum or newborn assessments

Experience in pediatric nursing

Experience in infection control and prevention or Communicable Disease Control (CDC)

Experience in harm reduction processes and procedures

Experience with mental health programs or in providing mental health services

Proficiency in speaking a First Nations language

Experience working in outpost or isolated / remote settings

Experience working with Indigenous people or organizations

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willingness to relocate to Saskatchewan

Occasional requirement to work overtime

Occasional requirement for overnight travel

Willingness and ability to work overtime in the event of a public health emergency or outbreak

May be required to be temporarily reassigned to other communities as operationally required

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid drivers licence

Current BLS certification (to be renewed annually)

Continuous professional registration, in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)

Note : Candidates must meet and maintain the above conditions of employment throughout their employment
