Who we’re looking for:

The Senior Kafka Engineer will be the technology lead to provide hands-on administration of our vital Enterprise Kafka platform, from solutioning, delivery through to operational production support.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the hands-on technical administration of a large enterprise Kafka deployment, with stretch clusters across multiple data centers and the Cloud.
  • Ensure high availability of Kafka services by implementing failover mechanisms, rapid recovery processes, ensuring proper monitoring alerts and knowledge sharing with the team.
  • Ensure efficient high performance of the Kafka platform, finding and removing bottlenecks throughout data pipelines, recommending infrastructure and design changes when needed.
  • Ensure security compliance of the Kafka platform by implementing and enforcing security policies adhering to Rogers security guidelines.
  • Develop automated deployment scripts using tools such as Ansible, Terraform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Kafka solutions, including onboarding and assisting with the design and troubleshooting of Kafka clients.
  • Accountable for reporting and service metrics including usage analytics, capacity, and performance of the Kafka environments.
  • Serve as escalation resource on infrastructure and application integration issues as related to installs of Kafka, patching deployments, or any other project related work.
  • Drive major incident bridges and root cause analysis of issues related to the Kafka platform.
  • Provide architectural expertise to develop and update a technology roadmap for Kafka, using a strong understanding of current industry developments and best practices.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong hands-on experience supporting mission-critical multi-datacenter, hybrid Confluent cloud, large scale enterprise Kafka implementations.
  • Strong understanding of core concepts in Confluent Kafka such as Zookeeper, KRaft, Schema Registry, Control Center, Connect servers, Replicators.
  • Strong hands-on experience with security hardening of Kafka using Kerberos, TLS, ACL, RBAC, OAuth, certificates, firewalls, API Gateways.
  • Experience tuning and upgrading Kafka with minimum downtime and impact to business.
  • Experience with automation pipelines with Jenkins, Github, Terraform, Azure DevOps, Python.
  • Experience with Kafka Connectors including Sink/Source connectors, Syslog connectors, Elastic connectors.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools Dynatrace, C3, Elastic, Kibana, Grafana.
  • Experience with Kafka clients in Cloud platforms Azure, AWS, Confluent Cloud.
  • Experience with recovery processes such as changing offsets, retention, partition management, Disaster Recovery, performance testing.

What you must bring:

  • Excellent hands-on experience administering large enterprise Kafka environments using Linux/Unix command line and DevOps automation tools.
  • Keen interest of Middleware concepts, and ability to discuss data integration architecture in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting technical issues with experience leading Incident Bridges and staying calm under pressure.
  • Engage on Service Requests/Incident/Changes/Problems that are escalated to the team regarding project activities or operational support.
  • After business hours or evening or weekend shifts of work will be required for on-call support and to minimize business impact of system changes.
