About Us
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan’s correctional system and facilities and providing guidance and support to Saskatchewan’s municipal police services.
The Communications Branch manages the strategic communications functions for the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety’s activities and operations.
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Communications Consultant and are currently seeking a creative and highly motivated individual to join our team who is collaborative, proactive and results oriented.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be part of a dynamic team of communications professionals responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating communication strategies, programs and activities.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Creating and managing strategic communications plans to address programs and initiatives.
- Develop strategic communications plans and provide strategic support to create awareness of the services, programs and funding by the Ministry;
- Overseeing all aspects of communications projects including composing and editing a variety of documents, such as articles for intranet sites, newsletters, web content, graphic design, etc.
- Lead and coordinate a range of external communication initiatives including writing and editing news releases, briefing notes, speaking notes, and correspondence.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to senior ministry officials;
- Planning special events, including working with vendors, preparing materials, arranging speakers and sessions, overseeing the event day, managing a budget, etc.
- Working independently and as part of the team to plan, develop, implement and evaluate communication strategies and plans.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this, role you will have :
- Knowledge of communications theories, principals and techniques.
- A strong background in writing communication materials and strategies, including creating materials for traditional and digital audiences.
- Have a specific interest and background in internal communications.
- The ability to research, clearly and concisely write and edit a variety of communications materials including communication plans, web content, news releases, speeches and publications.
- The ability to anticipate, identify and assess broad issues in the context of the impact on the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
- Experience using communications related software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, as well as Google Analyctics, social media analytics and website content management systems), video editing programs is considered an asset.
- Plan announcements, press conferences and media events; Event planning experience is considered a must.
Typically, the knowledge and competencies required for this position would be acquired through a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English or a related field of study, combined with several years of communications experience.
