Position Overview

You’re a strategic thinker with a strong ability to translate complex concepts into simple language. You pay close attention to the details and your excellent verbal and written communication skills guide you as you work toward submitting applications to drive our business forward.

As regulatory affairs manager, you’ll lead the cross functional teams who contribute to the regulatory process for all company initiatives that involve interaction with the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC).

Reporting to director, regulatory affairs, this position focuses on assisting in developing the strategy and execution for regulatory applications.

In this role, you will :

Manage regulatory applications and filings, ensuring they are up to standard, submitted on time, and in compliance with BCUC orders.

Additionally, you’ll be the point of contact for all interactions with the regulator as you manage application outcomes.

  • Lead a cross functional team of senior managers and managers to encapsulate all aspects of regulatory matters while effectively identifying and communicating any risks to the corporate strategy through regulatory analysis.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key leaders across the company, external regulatory legal counsel, and the BCUC.
  • Be a major contributor in BCUC proceedings and oral hearings for applications as you prepare company witnesses. You’ll act as the face of the company as you respond to queries from the BCUC and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee all activities leading up to and during a regulatory hearing process, including application development, responses to information requests, and compliance filings.

What it takes :

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, plus a minimum of six years of recent and related regulatory experience with a regulated company or regulatory body.
  • A Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a team and apply superior judgments and strategic and innovative thinking in decision making.
  • A proven track record in producing high-quality written documents, such as applications and responses to information requests for submission to the BCUC.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that allow you to develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
