Position Summary
Reporting to the VP, Health & Safety, the Senior Manager, Health and Safety supports Health & Safety initiatives and provides H&S oversight across several sites in Canada. The Senior H&S Manager provides guidance, coaching and technical expertise to the HS Specialists, Site Management Teams and to the VP Operations. Further, the Senior, H&S Manager is responsible for facilitating the organization’s implementation and maintenance of company Health & Safety Programs and initiatives. This position is a part of Sofina’s senior leadership team that drives focus, strategy, programs, best practices implementation and institute the same in all our facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for supporting the development and implementation of company-wide health and safety strategy, tools, programs, and initiatives to drive consistency and sustainability. This includes communication, planning, training, development, implementation, and follow-up.
- Accountable for providing guidance, coaching and technical expertise at the site level to HS Specialists and site management to ensure management engagement and accountability in H&S and facilitate the execution of H&S initiatives. These involve leveraging resources, recognizing issues / potentials, assisting with evaluation and identification of controls, execution / follow up / problem solving, and a sense of urgency, as required.
- Accountable to ensure consistency across Sofina sites and amongst HS Specialists by replicating successes / sharing opportunities and learnings from incidents to drive continuous improvement.
- Responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships with operational and functional management teams to inspire, coach, influence and challenge behaviour and H&S leadership with the intent of moving the organization closer towards a culture of H&S Excellence and Caring for our employees.
- Participate in and execute projects designed to reduce risk and improve health and safety controls, by conducting Job Hazard analyzes / baseline assessments, audits, training, problem solving, incident investigations and claim management support, as required.
- Liaise with local regulators, Union and other stakeholders to build sustainable, positive relationships and company credibility; capable of functioning as delegate to the VP, H&S, as required.
- Ensure career progression management and development of the H&S team members by providing guidance, constructive feedback, assigning challenging opportunities and on the job coaching to help develop the Sofina H&S leaders of tomorrow.
- Support and monitor key initiatives at the site level such as the H&S Audit Corrective Action Plan, Annual H&S Priorities Implementation Plan and Leading Indicators progress.
Qualifications
10 years’ experience in a progressively Senior H&S role.Diploma or Degree in a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program, Ergonomics or an equivalent combination of experience and training. CSRP certification considered an asset.Knowledge of applicable Provincial safety legislation / regulations and Occupational Health and Safety standards.Knowledge of Claims Management, Workers’ Compensation board policies and procedures.Experience in working with regulatory authorities, management, union personnel and safety committees developing safety programs, conducting audits, training, and implementing best practices.Environmental Management competencies are an asset.
Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).This role requires travel across our facilities within the GTA.Hiring Range : CAD $95,800-$145,800
Bonus : This position is eligible for a bonus up to 16.5% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.
Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
