Nature and Scope

The Assessment Writer reports directly to the Dean of Adult Basic Education (ABE). The Assessment Writer will serve a primary role in planning, writing, and implementing the new SIIT Adult Achievement Test.

This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.

General Accountability

The Assessment Writer will be responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and facilitating all components of the new SIIT Adult Achievement Test assessment.

This position will create a new assessment method that will be used to assess adult learners for schooling or academic ability.

The position will be responsible for analyzing collected data and using statistical software in the development of a standardized test.

This position includes the following accountabilities :

Specific Accountabilities

Administration and Assessment Development

  • Research current assessments used at SIIT and other colleges / institutes
  • Coordination of all planning and developing of ABE assessment tool
  • Review, edit, create, and rewrite SIIT ABE assessment
  • Develop a reliable and valid test that will be used to assess adult learners for schooling or academic ability
  • Development of a standardized test that will assess areas such as Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Number Operations, and Problem Solving
  • Write clear well-designed assessment content which may include instruction manual, ABE assessment tool, and scoring sheet
  • Implementing, training, and facilitating all components of the ABE assessment tool
  • Create procedures for administering, marking, and scoring assessment
  • Working collaboratively with the ABE and other departments to pilot the SIIT Adult Achievement Test

Relationship Management

  • Collaborate and collect information as required to support successful outcomes
  • Provide regular and effective communication to stakeholders to ensure they stay informed and engaged
  • Demonstrate leadership and initiative in sharing research and outcomes with key academic leaders
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
  • Communicate with colleagues to better understand their vision and goals

Required Qualifications and Experience : A Master's degree in Education, specifically in Educational Psychology is preferred.

Experience developing standardized testing and analyzing data using statistical software is required. Experience and knowledge with the Canadian Adult Achievement Test or other forms of assessment is considered an asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. For success in this position, a genuine commitment to help adults learn and succeed is required.

Knowledge of First Nations Culture and organizations would be an asset.
