Construction Inspector

Job Profile

There is an opening for a Construction Inspector within the Infrastructure Services Department, Engineering Services Division. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Field Services this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties :

What you will be doing

• Inspect and enforce contract specifications on Capital and Development projects
• Interpret and ensure contractor compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Environmental Protection Act, Safe Drinking Water Act (and applicable Regulations) and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
• Document all work performed in electronic reports, including materials used, payment items, health and safety issues and customer issues and complaints
• Perform various testing of drinking water for compliance to Regulations
• Witness and verify water commissioning procedures, as well as various soils, concrete and asphalt testing
• Operate laptop and tablet for day-to-day document recording
• Issue variation orders
• Direct Geotechnical Consultant activities
• Collaborate with Project Engineer or Supervisor of for any issues that require follow-up
• Communicate with customers and stakeholder groups (various issues and complaints)
• Generate and approve monthly progress payments
• Provide project updates and manage bi-weekly site meetings
• Review and approve Geotechnical consultant deliverable and billing for projects
• Conduct final inspections of projects including evaluation of contractor performance

Education

Experience and Knowledge

2 to 3 years of previous related experience in the following :

A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license in good standing, with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (4 or less demerit points may be considered acceptable)

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and / or educational qualifications.

Your compensation

This position is within Grade 9 of the inside workers union salary schedule and the annual salary range is $94,395 to $100,315. A comprehensive benefits package is included and enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Hours of work

The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the Inside Worker's Collective Agreement, (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday.
