Role and Facility Information

Island Health has an opportunity for a part‑time 0.4 FTE Anesthesiologist to join their team at the Comox Valley Hospital.

Comox Valley Hospital is a new 150‑bed community hospital with state‑of‑the‑art facilities, 6 operating rooms (5 operational, 1 reserved for emergency caesarean sections).

Anesthesiologists provide services for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, ECT, Cardioversion and assist with emergency intubations in the ER and ICU.

Additional duties include running a consultation clinic and an out‑of‑OR Rover position.

Weekday on‑call starts at 1500 and ends at 0800 with mandatory on‑site coverage until 2000 then home call afterward. Pre‑call and post‑call are off. Weekend and statutory 24‑hour call runs 0800 to 0800 with mandatory on‑site coverage from 0800 to 1200.

Applicants must have recent (within 6 months) paediatric (2 yrs and older) andetrical experience or a plan to update these skills. Flexibility to increase coverage during HR shortages is required.

Shortlisted candidates should spend an absolute minimum of 1 week in department, ideally longer as a locum. After the locum, a 360‑degree assessment will be conducted; successful candidates will be offered an interview.
