Job Title : Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS)Counsellor
Location : Corner Brook, NL
Position Type : full-time position until March 31, 2026, with possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Reporting totheSatellite Offices Manager, theSettlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) Counselloris responsible forproviding guidance and support to immigrant and refugee children and youth attending schools, as well as implementing the existing support strategies for newcomer children experiencing transitional issues adjusting to life in Canada. The SWIS Counsellor is a competent individual with experience in developing goals, timelines, and delivery methods to achieve saidobjectives.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with school representatives, ANC RAP / Settlement Team, and newcomer families on settlement strategies
- Provide newcomers with orientations to the NLESD / NLFSD system
- Conduct needs assessments with children and youth and develop strategies for support
- Counsel parents and guardians on becoming active participants in their children's education Introduce clients to school resources and community connections
- Provideclients guidance on managing their educational transition period on both a broader scale and everyday challenges
- Facilitate the delivery of various ESL-focused school activities
- Remain abreast of current settlement resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps related to children and youth
- Collaborate with other employees, teachers, school administrators, volunteers, and stakeholders to help identifyand resolve any settlement-integration issues
- Participate in local and regional committees and workshops to share information and build knowledge of best practices
- Record and compile accurately client statistics and accomplishments to include in monthly and quarterly activity reports and annual narrative reports
- Ensure program activities are delivered in a manner consistent with a trauma-informed approach
- Support all ANC satellite offices by providing in-person services to schools in Corner Brook and surrounding communities, and offering virtual support to other satellite offices asrequired
Qualifications and Experience :
Degree / Diploma in Human Services / Social Sciences or equivalent combination of training and experienceSkilled in crisis intervention and conflict resolutionAbility to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders (internal and external)Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written / verbal communication skillsPossess cultural awareness and sensitivity in working with a diverse client groupAbility to multitask, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environmentStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteKnowledge of the settlement process and issues facing immigrants and refugees is an assetKnowledge of community resources, child welfare and immigration system is an assetAbility to speak a second language is an assetConditions of Employment :
