The Office of the Vice-President (Research & Graduate Studies) seeks an engaged, motivated, and organized individual to join our team to contribute to shaping the future administrative development and direction of the Office.
Reporting to the Vice-President (Research & Graduate Studies), the Administrative Assistant provides confidential administrative support to the Vice-President and their staff, which includes the Office of Research Services and the Graduate Studies portfolio.
Support extends to several committees under the auspices of the Vice-President including the Senate Research, Research Ethics, and Animal Care committees.
About the Office :
The newly established Office of the Vice-President (Research & Graduate Studies) oversees research and graduate studies at Brandon University and guides the strategies, programs, and services that support these essential areas.
The Vice-President is a member of the University’s senior leadership team and works closely with the Deans’ Council in supporting the growth of research and graduate programming.
The Office of Research Services assists faculty and students with grant, contract, and scholarship opportunities; ensures institutional and external compliance;
and develops policies and procedures. The Office of Graduate Studies assists in the recruitment of graduate students, supports existing graduate programs, and explores the growth of new programs.
The Office of the Vice-President and the University as a whole, values equity, diversity, and inclusion and works towards its consideration and implementation in all aspects of the work undertaken.
Required Qualifications and Experience :
As the first point of contact, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing exemplary service to internal and external stakeholders who engage with the Office and managing the day-to-day operations and administrative duties.
- The Administrative Assistant is expected to balance multiple priorities and assignments; provide administrative support for committees;
- prepare agendas, record minutes and complete necessary follow-up for meetings; monitor multiple budget lines and financial reconciliations;
and other relevant duties as assigned.
- The ideal candidate must demonstrate : strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
- experience working with policy and procedural documents; experience in budget management; knowledge of Microsoft Office and various programs and databases;
- the ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, collegiality, and exercise sound judgment in complex and sensitive situations;
the ability to exercise a high degree of initiative; and the ability to develop and maintain positive, effective, and collaborative work relationships.
The successful candidate must possess a diploma or certificate in Office Administration and three (3) years’ work-related experience, or a comparable combination of experience and education.
Experience working in a post-secondary or a public sector environment is considered an asset.

Rank and Salary : This is a full-time, regular appointment under the classification of Excluded Support Staff, Level III (ESS-III), with an annual salary of $59,537.00.
