The Zatzman Sportsplex, built in 1982, is a vibrant, family-focused health, fitness, and recreation complex that serves Dartmouth's communities and all regions of the Halifax Regional Municipality.

This beloved facility re-opened in February 2019 with a state-of-the-art fitness center, modern equipment, and welcoming community spaces.

Beyond its physical upgrades, the Sportsplex has also launched a significant community outreach and accessibility program aiming to reduce barriers and ensure everyone in the community can enjoy the amenities and activities available.

Hawthorne Recruitment, on behalf of the Zatzman Sportsplex, is conducting a search for a dynamic, experienced, and visionary General Manager (GM).

The GM will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management and strategic growth of the facility. They will lead the organization through various opportunities and challenges, manage a diverse team, and engage with the community and stakeholders to foster a positive and productive environment.

The vision for the facility is to grow towards financial sustainability.

Reporting to the board of directors, the General Manager will be entrusted with the strategic vision and leadership to enhance and lead the Sportsplex, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among the team while ensuring the facility's competitiveness.

You will collaborate closely with the board to develop and execute strategic initiatives, ensuring effective communication and accountability.

Your financial acumen will be crucial in addressing vulnerabilities and improving performance through robust budgeting and planning.

Operationally, you will oversee daily activities, manage a diverse group of staff, and maintain high standards. Your role will also involve managing and developing HR capabilities, engaging with the community to build trust and transparency, and providing exceptional customer service to ensure a positive user experience.

Key Responsibilities :

• Develop and implement strategic initiatives that promote the Sportsplex's growth and community engagement.
• Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring high standards of service and maintenance.
• Lead and manage a diverse team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
• Engage with the community to enhance outreach and accessibility, promoting inclusivity and reducing barriers.
• Collaborate with the board of directors to ensure alignment with strategic goals and accountability.
• Manage financial planning, budgeting, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience for all users.

Qualifications :

• Degree in business or management; an MBA or similar degree is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in management and operation of a similar facility.
• Executive management experience with expertise in strategic and business planning and budgeting.
• Understanding of the health, fitness, and recreation sector is an asset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven experience in leading large, diverse staff teams.
