Heavy Duty Mechanic Subcontractor (Suncor Top Shop)

Position Scope

NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) with Service Truck (Partial Direct Service Provider) to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area.

Upon hire, you will be eligible for a $7500 Attraction Bonus* . This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region.

For this role, NACG offers a combined gross rate of up to $74.45 / hour as well as room for growth! Truck rate is $36.50 (can increase to $45- based on truck and tooling) or Full Direct Service Provider flat rate is $135

Where You’ll Be Working

• Site : Suncor Top Shop
• Schedule : 14 x 14, 12 hour days (paid for 11.5 hours). Days / Nights.
• Accommodations : Camp is not provided. $15 Living Out Allowance per hour.
• Transportation : Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shifts).
• Overtime : Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

What You'll Be Doing

• Complete repairs on CAT / Komatsu / Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
• Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
• Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
• Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
• Trouble shooting systems example : hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
• Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
• Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
• Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
• Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
• Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
• Other maintenance duties as assigned.

What Makes You The ONE

• Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman (Journeyperson) certification on large Haul Trucks / Dozers / Graders and Excavators.
• Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
• Capable of working with minimal supervision.
• Exhibit professional work behaviors.

• Basic knowledge of computer applications.
• Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction
• A valid Alberta Journeyperson Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic / Technician (Off Road).
• Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
• Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset

Truck Requirements :

• Current CVIP and Picker Inspection.
• Oxygen / acetylene cabinets that meet OH&S requirements.
• Full complement of tools for repairing Off Road Equipment.
• $5 million liability insurance

What's Next

If you are chosen to move forward in our hiring process for a site-based role, you will be asked to provide the following :

• Provide a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a recent Driver’s Abstract
• Provide a valid CSO
• Be subject to Random Testing at : Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
• Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing :

Breath Alcohol Test

• Urine Drug Test
• Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
• Audiometric Testing
• Vision Screening
• Criminal Record Check

Once dispatched the following processes will occur :

• Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
• An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
• After all results and paperwork are received by NACG, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.
