Job Purpose
We are seeking to appoint an HR Officer who has the technical knowledge and experience of the full range of HR requirements consistent with a small independent school employing just over 100 staff.
The role will be based on our school site working 40 hours a week all year round. Remuneration will be dependent on experience and skills, likely in the range £30-35k.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all stages of an employee life cycle – from recruitment to exit
- Act as liaison with the school’s external payroll provider
- Manage routine HR matters such as staff absences (sickness, maternity, paternity), flexible working requests
- Provide HR guidance and procedural support to senior managers, including contentious matters such as disciplinary procedures
- Own all HR filing and administration records and processes, including the Single Central Record and related safeguarding checks
- Support senior managers with recruitment, induction, probation, sickness absence, maternity and paternity, retirement, leaver protocols and annual leave management
- Maintain staff pay database and liaise with external payroll provider for accurate, timely payments, including leave information, statutory leave, variations and timesheets
- Manage online DBS disclosures site and school pension schemes, including joiners, leavers and monthly contributions, auto‑reenrolment, and support pay review and awards processes
- Prepare and submit DFE workforce census, provide information for inspections and audits, and acknowledge and respond to ad‑hoc vacancy requests
- Manage HR@miltonabbey email inbox and take advice on routine HR legal matters, referring contentious issues to Head of Operations and Director of Finance
- Own and maintain HR policy documents, employment manual and other HR documents, ensuring updates with senior leadership approval
- Provide references in compliance with school policy
- Support line managers with HR knowledge across full HR issues, and aid the Head of Operations with staff wellbeing and statutory compliance
- Support the Head of Operations and Senior Leadership in meeting statutory and other HR compliance requirements
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Operations and Finance Director
