Role Summary :
The Journeyman Electrician plays a vital role in the correct installation of electrical wire, cable, and equipment in various structures, including camp dorms, both indoors and outdoors.
The work done will be in support of a camp dorm renovation project. Knowledge of and ability to execute the tasks required as per the Canadian Electrical Code is a key part of this role.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Follow procedures as defined in the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code)
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as multimeters and megohmmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including multimeters, and megohmmeters.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors, transformers, circuit breaker panels and disconnects.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts.
- Cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
- Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures.
- Install and insulate self-regulating heat trace and test with multimeter and megohmmeter.
- Lockout electrical systems for all trades (Familiarity with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures)
- Other duties as required by supervision such as assisting laborers, carpenters, and plumbers.
Education & Experience :
- Valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician Ticket or Red Seal Certification is required.
- 4+ years’ experience within Residential or Commercial Construction Projects preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge with computers : Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Excellent communication and Customer Service skills.
- Must be able to work in a variety of conditions.

- CSTS and OSSA Regional Orientation or OSSA BSO (Basic Safety Orientation before December 31, 2018) or CSO (Common Safety Orientation after January 1, 2019)

- Previous Renovation Experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a work team.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive Drug, Alcohol, and Physical Demand Assessment
