Overview

GEO Morphix Ltd. (GEO Morphix) is comprised of an accomplished and well-respected team of professional geoscientists and environmental experts who are skilled and knowledgeable in the technical disciplines of fluvial geomorphology, earth surface processes, and watershed science. The firm is primarily focused on projects that involve the restoration or management of river and shoreline systems, with integrated and standalone service offerings in :

  • Environmental investigations and monitoring
  • Channel and coastal design
  • Construction observation

Range of Pay : Min = $45,000.00 per year, Max = $65,000.00 per year, based on multiple factors such as skills and experience

Hours of Work : 40 hours per week, requiring occasional overtime

Department : Construction Services

Travel for Work : Frequent travel to local and remote field sites

Job Description

To continue its mission to be an industry leader in earth science and geomorphic consulting services, GEO Morphix is hiring an Environmental Inspector to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will provide support to our construction and restoration services team by completing erosion and sediment control (ESC) inspections, as well as restoration design construction inspections. They will also assist with inspecting construction implementation of our designs at both local and remote sites, including watercourse and wetlands, channel stabilization, coastal erosion and shoreline protection, and stormwater management outfall.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly conduct inspections at local and remote project sites to ensure adherence to design drawings and contract documents
  • Interpret requirements and details of design drawings and specifications
  • Review quality control, verify quantities, prepare progress reports, and maintain written and photographic documentation and records
  • Support water quality and environmental sampling
  • Attend construction progress meetings
  • Ensure compliance with permit conditions, contract standards, and specifications
  • Identify and resolve construction issues with the assistance of the contract administrator and / or project manager
  • Provide technical support for data analysis and report preparation for various projects
  • Strategize and balance the workload of multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
  • Collaborate with staff, clients, consulting partners, and permitting agencies
  • Occasional long-distance, multi-day travel to sites in Eastern and Northern Ontario will be required for inspections, on-site client meetings, or project-related activities
  • Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in environmental science or technology, water or earth resources, geology, geography, environmental or civil engineering, or a related field
  • Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) or the ability to complete the required training with proven proficiency in inspecting and reporting on the implementation of ESC Plans
  • Experience with the application and correction of erosion and sediment control measures, reporting deficiencies, and containment of effluent during construction
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of construction practices, inspections, and techniques would be an asset
  • Ability and aptitude to ensure contractor’s compliance with the requirements of the contract documents, specifications, and permit conditions
  • Ability and interest to travel to remote sites in Northern Ontario
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Valid G Class driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel for fieldwork
