Loewen has an opportunity for a Co-op Student who is either in a Mechanical / Structural Engineering Technologist program to join us for the summer at our manufacturing facility in Steinbach, MB. As a Product Development – Co-op Student , you will assist in the development of new products from initial concept thru to manufactured, tested and certified products. Support current product changes and sustainment.
- With direction from Design Leader and / or Senior Designers, creation of design / engineering documentation to support product introductions and / or revisions as follows :
- Create / update design drawings and specifications.
- Create / update Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Create 3D printed parts, as required.
- Create / update certification testing information packages, as required.
- Assist in gathering and compiling product data for regulatory purposes.
- Apply a design for manufacturing thinking on design solutions developed.
- Take part in and provide feedback at Design review meetings.
- Support PDM, ME and Manufacturing during product related implementations.
- Assist Lab Technician with test unit bucking, testing and root cause analysis as needed.
- Confirm Design effectiveness with involvement in prototyping and testing as needed.
- Follow documented ECN process for all product changes.
- Effectively communicate with internal customers.
- Take part in product idea generation as required.
- Continuous Improvement - continually look for and implement ways to eliminate all types of waste – example process waste.
- As needed - provide support with other team member projects to ensure department goals are successfully met.
- Assist in creation of testing reports and documentation as needed.
Requirements :
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor and 3D modeling, MS Word, Excel & WrikeWorking toward a Mechanical / Structural Engineering or Technologist Diploma.Mechanically inclined.Strong oral and written English communication and organizational skills.Results oriented and ability to work in a time sensitive environment.High-level problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Materials and processing knowledge of wood, aluminum, fiberglass, vinyl, etc.Ability to work in a team environment.Skills in report writing.Qualified applicants are invited to submit a resume by February 27, 2026.
