Job Summary

The focus of the Quality Assurance Specialist is to coordinate new product quality and optimize quality processes for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.

This role is critical in ensuring that new products meet our quality standards from development through production.

Location : 11 Bermondsey Rd, East York, ON M4B 1Z3

Starting Salary Range : $30 - 34 / hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings and collaborate with the New Product Development team to establish quality standards and specifications for new products.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing inspections of new product samples
  • Develop and maintain quality control documentation, including inspection plans, testing protocols, and quality checklists for new products.
  • Evaluate existing injection molding processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Work with production and engineering teams to implement process changes that enhance product quality, reduce cycle time, and minimize waste.
  • Perform regular inspections and quality checks on raw materials, in-process production, and finished products
  • Analyze test results and provide feedback to production and NPD teams.
  • Identify, document, and investigate non-conforming products and materials.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues.
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing product quality, reducing defects, and improving overall plant efficiency.
  • Provide training to production staff on quality standards, best practices, and process optimization techniques.
  • Assist in preparing for and conducting internal and external quality audits.
  • Maintain a clean and organized (5S) QA lab, testing facilities, and equipment
  • Perform a variety of other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in a Quality, Manufacturing or Engineering related field.
  • Must have proven experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • ASQ certification is a strong asset
  • Experience in new product development and process optimization is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Proficient in using quality inspection tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS), ISO standards, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes of quality issues and implement effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using CMMS programming is an asset
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks software experience is an asset

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends almost 100% of time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labour. The majority of the work will involve considerable standing and walking as well as some lifting, pulling and pushing light objects.

Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, and noise levels. Considerable amount of sensory attention is required.

Limited control of work pace and unexpected workflow, bring some stresses to this position. Exposure to hazardous materials and / or chemicals may be required.
