Reportingto the Department Head, Transportation department in the School of Skilledtrades, the position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance andoperations of our lab / shop spaces.
The position will also delivertechnical lessons in the lab / shop environment independently, under the guidanceof instructors, using existing rubrics and assessments tools provide byinstructors, to evaluate students.
Key Responsibilities :
Lab / Shop :
- Maintainand calibrate lab / shop equipment
- Ensurelab security
- Manufacturespecialized items when required
- Ensurework area is in a safe and clean condition
- Liaison with other sections or programs when required
Inventory and Budget Control :
- Maintainconsumables and inventory of equipment
- Obtainquotes when ordering new equipment
- Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature
Instructional Support :
- Independently,and / or team teach, deliver in lab / shop technical activities / lessons
- Evaluatestudents based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided byinstructors, and provide feedback
- Independentsupervision of students
- Demonstratelab / shop equipment
- Prepare,setup and dismantle lab / shop exercises
- Assistor perform lab / shop demonstrations of equipment under the supervision ofinstructional support
- Ensureknowledge of related equipment including use and application
- Assistinstructional staff when require to ensure the safe and correct use ofequipment
- Assist instructors in the development of new lab / shop exercises
Student Support :
- Providetutorial / remedial
- Assiststudents in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperationwith other staff members
- Ensurestudents are working in a safe condition
Skills & Abilities :
- StrongOral & Written communication

- Initiativeand ability to work independently
- Knowledgeof computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
- Abilityto lift 50lbs unassisted
- Abilityto work flexible hours and assignments
Qualifications :
- Trades certificationand / or related technical diploma
- 5 - 8 years postjourneyman completion
- Class 5 drivers licenserequired
- Forklift training anasset
- Man-lift training anasset
- Fall Arrest an asset
- Equivalent combinations of education andexperience may be considered.
Remuneration : $59,603.44- $79,497.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification Instructional Assistant II).
Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
