Job Description
- Performs direct patient duties.
- Reports daily to the Patient Care Manager, providing expert clinical support to the staff and in the care of surgical patients and their families.
- Works with the Patient Care Manager to co-ordinate the daily activity of the unit.
- In collaboration with the Patient Care Manager facilitates the assessment, care and flow of surgical patients.
- Responsible for scheduling for the department and the daily staffing assignment.
- Ensures adequate coverage of the department and liaisons with SDC / PACU regarding weekly staffing.
- Assists the PCM with ongoing management of the Attendance Management Program
- Assists the Patient Care Manager in the hiring of staff, in the performance appraisal processes, budgetary planning, monitoring and management;
utilization management; quality program development and indicator monitoring. Accepts and completes special projects as assigned.
- Responsible for payroll submission in collaboration with the PCM
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the management of human and material resources
- Facilitates the learning needs of the Surgical Daycare Unit / PACU in collaboration with the PPC and PCM of surgery
- Models professional practice related to clinical practice standards and interpersonal skills.
- Promotes the use of evidence based and best practice in collaboration with the PPC and PCM of surgery.
- Accepts and completes special projects as assigned.
- Participates in ongoing monitoring of quality indicators and identifying improvement strategies in consultation with the PCM.
- Represents the PACU / SDC at formal and informal committees in consultation with the PCM (people leader)
Qualifications
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and BCLS Certification required
- BScN as asset.
- Critical Care Nursing course and / or PACU course required
- Perioperative Nursing Certification or willingness to obtain an asset.
- 5 years+ current PACU and SDC experience
- Previous CRN experience an asset
- Experience with administering IV drugs below the drip chambers, central lines, epidural / PCA pump experience required
- Experience with phlebotomy, paracentesis, and other ambulatory care procedures
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence with an ability to support and lead others
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centered care
- Previous nursing leadership experience, including change and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent teaching, mentoring, interpersonal and public relations skills
- Exceptional problem solving skills and critical thinking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work as a team member with peers, Program Leader, Patient Care Manager, Physicians and other multidisciplinary professionals
- Demonstrated ability to support Program Leader, Patient Care Manager, Physicians and other multidisciplinary professionals and Halton Healthcare Services with managing change.
- Contemporary thinking with positive progressive vision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs an asset
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
Additional Information
Hours : Monday to Friday, days 8 hour shifts, (subject to change based on operational requirements). Potential on-call evenings and weekend rotation to support PACU (subject to change based on operational requirements).
Salary : $43.25 - $60.15 per hour
