  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues across network services and infrastructure, including wired and wireless devices, telephony systems, video surveillance platforms, and electronic door access controls, minimizing service downtime.
  • Troubleshoots and performs backend administration for ancillary network systems, including DNS, DHCP, authentication services, and network monitoring tools, working collaboratively with senior resources to resolve complex issues.
  • Monitors system health and performance metrics for network services, proactively identifying issues and recommending improvements.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of installations, configurations, and asset records.
  • Contributes to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support consistent and reliable network operations.
  • Performs sustainment activities for network infrastructure, including applying firmware updates, conducting preventive maintenance, and monitoring systems for compliance with operational standards and security requirements.
  • Assists in developing and testing automation scripts or tools to streamline routine network administration tasks.
  • Responds to service tickets and operational requests, diagnosing issues and implementing solutions to support timely and effective resolution.
  • Supports technologies operated by other business units, including intrusion alarm systems and other security-related infrastructure, assisting with integration and operational activities.
  • Collaborates with other network and infrastructure team members during installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities, contributing to knowledge sharing and cross-training to support skills development and efficient service delivery.
  • Participates in planning and execution of scheduled maintenance windows, minimizing disruption to services.
  • Installs and verifies network devices, including switches, wireless access points, video surveillance cameras, and electronic door access controllers, in network closets, data centers, and campus locations.
  • Verifies adherence to unit standards and facilitates proper transition to operations for installations completed by external contractors or other teams.
  • Performs physical installation tasks, including lifting equipment, running cables, and working in various campus locations, following safe work practices and ergonomic guidelines.
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in computer science, information technology, telecommunications, or a related field; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or equivalent are considered assets.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in network support, infrastructure maintenance, or system administration in a large-scale environment.
  • Experience with physical network installation and testing in combined fiber and copper networks, basic switch and wireless configuration, and support of security-related systems such as access control, video surveillance systems, and intrusion alarms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise network environments and service ticketing systems is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across physical and logical network layers.
  • Familiarity with network hardware such as switches, routers, wireless access points and protocols (TCP / IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS).
  • Basic understanding of system administration tasks for access control, video surveillance, telephony, and intrusion detection platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and configuration guides.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical tasks in various locations across campus including but not limited to equipment installation and lifting, wiring, work in constrained areas, and work at modest heights.
