Our client is a well-established General Contractor based in Laval, specializing in institutional, industrial, and commercial (IIC) projects ranging from mid-size to large-scale developments. Known for delivering quality construction and fostering long-term relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, the company is seeking a Director of Estimation to lead and develop its preconstruction and estimating team.
The Director of Estimation will oversee all estimating activities within the company, ensuring the preparation of accurate, competitive, and timely bids. This role involves strategic leadership, team management, and hands-on involvement in complex tenders. The ideal candidate has a strong background in IIC projects and proven experience leading an estimating department within a general contracting environment.
Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.
Implement and maintain standardized estimating procedures, cost databases, and bid review processes.
Collaborate with executive management to define estimating strategies and business development priorities.
Preconstruction & Estimating
Oversee the preparation and submission of bids for institutional, industrial, and commercial projects (design-bid-build, design-build, and negotiated).
Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to assess scope, risk, and constructability.
Ensure accurate quantity take-offs, pricing, and subcontractor/supplier evaluations.
Lead value engineering exercises and provide cost-saving recommendations during preconstruction.
Business & Client Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Participate in business development and project pursuit meetings, providing estimating input and support.
Represent the estimating department in project handovers and debriefs to ensure seamless transition to project teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Minimum 10–15 years of estimating experience with a General Contractor, including at least 5 years in a leadership or senior estimating role.
Strong knowledge of institutional, industrial, and commercial construction methods, costs, and market conditions in Quebec.
Proficient in estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Procore Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Excel).
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Fully bilingual (French and English) is a strong asset.
