DESCRIPTION :
Reporting to the Manager Employee Development Centre, the Technical Training Specialist is responsible for program design and implementation for training a variety of employees on a range of topics as part of an integrated approach to employee development. This includes field training and the development and delivery of courses by both internal and external sources. This position is also a member of a team that manages and delivers the Power Line Technician (PLT) Apprenticeship Program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to) :
- Manage training programs while demonstrating a strong focus on safety; this includes the development and delivery of the training program / courses / sessions on work methods.
- Conduct on-job training and field observations.
- Lead groups of Journeyman and Apprentice PLTs in classroom and practical training sessions
- Work with customers to identify, develop and deliver training programs; this includes ensuring that all training programs conform to corporate standards and / or policies.
- Coordinate with vendors to develop and deliver curriculum that meets company needs; this includes ensuring and resolving any matters related to corporate standards, policies and practices.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to develop courses,
- Train SME’s on program delivery and provide feedback on the effectiveness of their classes.
- Assist Work Methods and Safety in the development, maintenance and training of company standards and procedures.
- Support Operations Managers and field staff on technical and training issues.
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness of existing training programs; make recommendations to change / improve.
- Continuously update training materials to reflect changes in regulations, standards, technology and audience.
- Operate and maintain the distribution system, line tools and facilities at the Employee Development Centre.
- Provide end-user support for custom company software programs used by field staff.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Comprehensive understanding of electrical theory and power systems.Excellent presentation and instructional skills supported by strong organizational and project management skills in order to manage programs from development to delivery.Thorough knowledge of work methods, safety applications and procedures.Strong technical field skills with proven ability to work independently.Demonstrated project management skills – can set priorities and organize work and complete work within given timelines.Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers and vendors; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of FortisAlberta custom programs and an advanced proficiency inOffice 365 programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Proven ability to both lead and work within a team environment.QUALIFICATIONS WE ARE LOOKING FOR :
A Journeyman Power Line Technician certificate plus a minimum of five (5) years of field work experience as a journeyman is required.Valid Class 5 drivers permit is required.Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology would be considered an asset.Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education (CACE) would be a definite asset.A Journeyman Power Systems Electrician certificate would be an asset.Current Substation Switching certificate would be an assetCurrent System Switching certificate would be an assetSPECIAL CONDITIONS :
